What goes on a freelance invoice?
A clean freelance invoice has eight elements: invoice number, issue date, due date, your details, the client's details, itemized line items, a clear total, and payment terms. The invoice generator above produces all eight in a format clients' accounts payable teams expect.
Two details disproportionately affect how fast you get paid: a unique invoice number and a clear due date. Clients with multiple suppliers sort by invoice number; vague or missing numbers get filed and forgotten. Stating "Due: March 14, 2026" performs better than "Net 14" — explicit dates remove ambiguity.
